The real cost of a Sikh wedding in Canada

An honest, range-based look at what a Punjabi or Sikh wedding actually costs in Canada in 2026 — line by line, by city, and by guest count. No single fabricated “average.” Free to cite, with a transparent methodology below.

$30k–$120k+
Typical all-in range; most land $40k–$80k
60–70%
of the budget scales directly with guest count
$50–$120

Up to 50%
cheaper in Tier-3 cities than Tier-1 for the same wedding

Cost breakdown, by line item

Per-guest / per-look lines (excluded from the bars above): catering & langar $50–$120/guest, hair & makeup $400–$1,500/look.

The guest-count effect

Guest count is the dominant driver: roughly 60–70% of the budget scales with it. The same Surrey-tier wedding, at three different guest counts:

150 guests~$40k–$50k
250 guests~$78k
500 guests$130k+

Cutting 100 guests saves more than any vendor downgrade — catering, langar, bar, hall minimums, favours and seating all move with the headcount.

City matters — three tiers

The same wedding, executed at the same level, costs meaningfully different amounts by city. Relative index, Tier 1 = 100:

Tier 1Surrey, Vancouver, Brampton, Mississauga, Toronto100

Most expensive — highest hall minimums and premium vendor rates

Tier 2Calgary, Edmonton, Abbotsford, Ottawa, Kitchener-Waterloo78

15–30% cheaper for equivalent execution

Tier 3Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Halifax, Montreal, smaller cities60

30–50% cheaper, fewer specialist vendors

Methodology

These are estimate ranges, not a survey and not quotes. They are triangulated from vendors actively quoting Punjabi and Sikh weddings in Canada's major markets (the Lower Mainland and the Greater Toronto Area), cross-checked against our own directory of researched vendors across 14 Canadian cities and the public price ranges gurdwaras and halls publish. We deliberately do not publish a single “average” figure, because averaging a 100-guest one-day wedding and a 500-guest multi-event wedding produces a number that describes neither. Ranges are reviewed for the 2026 season. Where a real figure can't be sourced, we say so rather than invent precision. The Anand Karaj is a Gurdwara donation (seva), never a fixed fee.
